Parenting With Love and Logic

A few months ago my cousins NaTasha and Kwinnae told me about a great parenting book. I checked out the book and the audio book from the library and my husband and I both read/listened to the book.
I really enjoyed the book. It focuses on teaching children responsibility, and giving them choices.
It has been pretty tricky to train ourselves to talk to our children differently. We are working on giving choices and positive modeling.
Do you have any favorite parenting books? Have you read Love and Logic?

Hi Mon. I was introduced to Love and Logic about five years ago. I really like it. It's interesting to consider that you can't force change on your children--you can only change your parenting strategy. I have seen great successes in my home because of my changed approach to discipline.

Here are some other great books:

The Power of Positive Parenting by Glenn Lathem (Latham?)
He also has an LDS-focused book called The Power of Christlike Parenting.

The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman (there is one for adults and one for kids)

I found out that the HEAD START program requires its preschool employees to read two books as part of their training: The Five Love Languages and Love and Logic.

If you ever get a chance to attend a Love and Logic seminar in SLC, I recommend it. They are expensive, but worth the time and money!

I love Love and Logic! I read it forever ago, and then again last year. Great stuff. I have some CD's and even a DVD (I think?) if you want to borrow. Last March Jim Fay was here all day long and I went to the seminar. And actually, Charles Fay is here on Thursday (they may be "sold out", but last year I just went and they were able to get me in). It was awesome and well worth the money when we saw Jim. Here is the link to their website (and you can sign up for their newsletter too - great tips and discounts as well!). http://www.loveandlogic.com/ecom/p-359-nampa-id-january-27-2009.aspx

One of my girlfriends has recapped the Love and Logic style for me because she swears by it. I have tried to adopt the methods into the way I parent, but I fail often. I need to get on the ball and read that book! So many people rave about it!

I have been meaning to get that book. My sis is actually take that class out in Meridian right now. Totally free!!! She says its awesome and they even do free daycare with fun craft activities the night of the class with free dinners. I think each school district teaches the class at least 2-3 times a year.
